My Addiction
Part 5
We can become comfortable with what is wrong
Perhaps this is where the subject of SIN becomes more relevant to everyday life. Most people don’t wake up one morning and decide that they want to destroy their lives, destroy their relationships or become someone they no longer recognize. More often, destructive behavior begins with something that appears manageable. One compromise doesn’t seem important. One lie doesn’t seem significant. One betrayal can be explained. One indulgence can be justified. One decision can be dismissed as something that will never happen again. But repeated decisions have a way of changing us.
A person can tell one lie and feel uncomfortable about it. Then another lie becomes easier. Eventually they become good at lying. A person can betray someone’s trust and spend days feeling guilty about it, but instead of facing what they have done, they create an explanation that makes them feel better. Eventually the explanation becomes more important than the truth. A person can begin a destructive habit while believing they remain completely in control, only to discover much later that the habit has started controlling them instead.
This is where sin becomes more than an isolated action. It can become a direction. It can become a pattern of thinking and behaving. Eventually, what we repeatedly choose can begin to shape the person we become. That is why the issue is not simply whether we have ever done something wrong. Of course we have. The deeper question is whether we have become comfortable continuing to do what we already know is wrong. Fow how long will we keep on living a lie?
Let’s Pray:
Lord, I pray that today will be the turning point of my life, today will be the start of my new life – FREE of ADDICTION. Today, surrender my will to you – show me the TRUTH! Show me you…
In Jesus’ name – Amen!
